Our 2018 Programme of Talks and Visits 

We usually organise 9 talks and 2 visits each year.      
 
Places on our visits are usually limited in number and only available to members. There is normally an additional charge for each visit to cover items such as admission fees, guides and sometimes transport and/or refreshments. 

Unless otherwise noted below, all talks take place at 8pm in Plaxtol Memorial Hall, School Lane, Plaxtol, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN15 0QD.  See the Map at the bottom of this page.

Tuesday 9 January, 8pm - LULLINGSTONE: THE RISE AND FALL OF A ROMAN VILLA, a talk by Rod Shelton

Tuesday 13 February, 8pm - THE 14TH  MOLLIE LEWIS MEMORIAL LECTURE - THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PARISH CHURCH IN KENT, a talk by Sir Paul Britton

Tuesday 13 March, 8pm - THE HISTORY OF JEWISH LIFE IN MEDWAY, a talk by Irina Fridman

Tuesday 10 April, 7 30pm at Roughway Farm Oast, Roughway Lane, Plaxtol, TN11 9SN - A PERSONAL HISTORY OF FARMING by John Cannon - PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE FROM OUR USUAL TIME AND MEETING PLACE

Tuesday 8 May, 8pm - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, followed by THE ITALIAN INFLUENCE ON THE GARDENS OF KENT, a talk by Dr Ann Knief

 

OUR SUMMER OUTINGS: Booking forms at available at our meetings. Payment to be made with booking, in cash or by cheque playable to Plaxtol Local History Group.

Tuesday 22 May, 2 to 3 30pm - WALKING TOUR OF THE VILLAGE OF AYLESFORD, GUIDED BY JOHN VIGAR. £4, payable with booking. Meet at Aylesford Priory main car park by 1 40pm. After this guided tour, you may take an optional self-guided tour of, and/or tea at, Aylesford Priory, Aylesford, ME20 7BX (tea to be paid for in cash to the Priory). Please bring wet weather gear and water and wear suitable footwear. 

Tuesday 26 June, 2 30 to 4pm - WALKING TOUR OF FAVERSHAM, GUIDED BY THE FAVERSHAM SOCIETY. The tour will include a visit to a former gunpowder works. £5, payable with booking. Meet outside The Vaults, 75 Preston Street, Faversham, ME13 8PA by 2 15pm. The Faversham Society suggests that members park in the Queen's Hall car park, Forbes Road, Faversham, ME13 8PG, about 250 yards from The Vaults, as that car park has no 4-hour time limit. Please bring wet weather gear and water and wear suitable footwear. Members may wish to make their own arrangements for lunch before, or tea after, the tour.

Tuesday 13 November, 8pm - HISTORIC KENTISH INDUSTRIES,  a talk by David Carder 

Tuesday 11 December, 8pm - KENT MUMMERS' PLAYS AND THE HOODEN HORSE, a talk by Dr Geoff Dole, followed by mulled wine
