Vanessa served as Secretary of Plaxtol Local History Group for 25 years from 1991 to 2016

At our AGM on 10 May 2016, Vanessa Dussek stepped down as Secretary of Plaxtol Local History Group. Amazingly, she had been Secretary for 25 years. During that time, she  organised (in many cases, while abroad on her and Jules's boat) over 220 monthly meetings, over 50 summer outings and over 50 Committee meetings and wrote hundreds of reports and minutes of those meetings.

Vanessa is an enthusiastic and committed participant in many of the History Group's projects, including recording gravestones in Plaxtol churchyard, transcribing Plaxtol's parish registers and censuses, and collecting villagers' wartime memories for our very successful Plaxtol at War exhibition and its two related booklets. She researched and wrote a fascinating 44 page booklet, Mill Life in Victorian Plaxtol, published by the History Group in 2011, and has contributed to many of our other publications.

Throughout her time as Secretary, Vanessa performed the role with enormous diligence, efficiency, charm and good humour and was a constant source of support and valued advice to four Chairmen. Even in this community-minded village, there can be very few, if any, who have provided so many years of outstanding and dedicated service to any Plaxtol organisation.

We are delighted that Vanessa has agreed to continue as a Committee member.
